From component level analysis using optical and electrical solvers to system level design and simulation, Lumerical’s products are capable of addressing the most challenging design problems.

Lumerical develops photonic simulation software – tools which enable product designers to understand light, and predict how it behaves within complex structures, circuits, and systems. Since being founded in 2003, Lumerical has grown to license its software design tools in over 50 countries and its customers include 10 of the top 15 companies in the S&P 1200 Global IT index, and 46 of the top 50 research universities as rated by the Times Higher Education rankings.

FDTD Solutions:
FDTD Solutions is a 3D Maxwell solver, capable of analyzing the interaction of UV, visible, and IR radiation with complicated structures employing wavelength
scale features.
FDTD Solutions empowers designers to confront the most challenging photonic design problems. Rapid prototyping and highly-accurate simulations reduce reliance upon costly experimental prototypes, leading to a quicker assessment of design concepts and reduced product development costs. FDTD Solutions can facilitate your success in diverse application areas, from fundamental photonics research to current industrial applications in imaging, lighting, biophotonics, photovoltaics, and many more.

MODE Solutions
Comprehensive waveguide design environment for the analysis and optimization of planar integrated optical waveguides, components and fibers
Supporting an eigenmode solver as well as various methods for simulating guided propagation of optical fields over long distances, MODE Solutions is an ideal tool for the design, analysis and optimization of guided components. The eigenmode (FDE) solver accurately calculates the physical properties of guided modes in truly arbitrary waveguide geometries. The 2.5D varFDTD solver in MODE Solutions enables rapid and accurate simulation of planar waveguide geometries such as SOI tapers and ring resonators, whereas the eigenmode expansion (EME) solver is ideal for simulating long distance light propagation in waveguide devices such as spot-size converters, tapers and Bragg gratings.

When combined with DEVICE, Lumerical’s optoelectronic solver, MODE Solutions provides a powerful tool for the design and analysis of active components such as high speed optoelectronic modulators.
Along with FDTD Solutions, INTERCONNECT and DEVICE, MODE Solutions is a key part of Lumerical’s comprehensive photonic design and analysis tools. All of Lumerical’s solvers provide support for data import/export and integration into common EDA tools, enabling complete product design flows from component architecture and optimization to large scale device and system design.

INTERCONNECT:
A photonic integrated circuit design environment for the analysis of integrated optical circuits, silicon photonics and optical interconnects
INTERCONNECT is a photonic integrated circuit design environment that enables the design, simulation and analysis of photonic integrated circuits. Complex and large scale optoelectronic circuits can be easily and reliably designed and analyzed using circuit elements within a hierarchical schematic editor.

2018a release:
Lumerical Inc., a leading developer of photonic simulation tools, announced today the 2018a release of its software suite: FDTD Solutions, MODE Solutions, DEVICE, and INTERCONNECT. The new release introduces a finite element optical solver, DEVICE DGTD, to Lumerical’s portfolio of simulation engines, along with significant enhancements to DEVICE’s 3D CAD framework. The company also maintains its commitment to best-in-class workflow integration with the addition of powerful electronic/photonic co-simulation improvements to its INTERCONNECT photonic integrated circuit simulation package. Together, these advancements provide designers with a complete suite of tools to tackle the design challenges posed by increasingly complex photonic components and higher levels of circuit integration.

DEVICE DGTD, a high-performance time-domain optical solver based on the discontinuous Galerkin time-domain (DGTD) method, delivers high accuracy and simulation efficiency for challenging applications, including plasmonics and metamaterials where curved metallic interfaces are often involved. As part of DEVICE, Lumerical’s multiphysics design and simulation environment, the DGTD solver brings optical modeling capabilities to complex multi-solver workflows associated with components employing optoelectronic and optothermal effects.

The latest enhancements to Lumerical’s INTERCONNECT photonic integrated circuit simulator improve electronic and photonic integrations and co-simulation, making it possible for more complex optoelectronic devices and chip scale effects to be prototyped and optimized within established design workflows. This capability is essential to simulate integrated photonic systems with electronic drivers, controllers and receivers and is the subject of ongoing development by Lumerical. Other features of note in INTERCONNECT include forward error correction (FEC) coding and decoding elements that support different hard- and soft-decision algorithms.

The 2018a release also improves multi-threading support in FDTD Solutions, reducing computational times for many applications on modern workstations. Lumerical continues to engineer its high-performance simulators to leverage increased memory bandwidth and additional cores available in the latest processor technologies, including the Xeon Phi and Skylake-SP.
