Description
In this issue of Breast Cancer Research and Treatment, Germain et al. evaluate the potential role of DEAD-box 1 (DDX1) as an independent marker of prognosis in breast cancer [1]. The authors identify the candidate gene DDX1 from microarray data generated from a series of 176 primary breast tumors with follow-up data. They further explore the prognostic role of DDX1 by performing immunohistochemistry (IHC) and nuclear/cytoplasmic scoring of DDX1 in a subset of this cohort. The authors take the important and necessary step of ensuring that DDX1 is independent of several commonly used biomarkers in breast cancer including hormone receptors and histological grade.
