Description
We read with great interest a recent article entitled ‘‘The prognostic role of circulating tumor cells (CTCs) detected by RT-PCR in breast cancer: a meta-analysis of published literature’’ by Zhao et al. [1] published online in Breast Cancer Research and Treatment. In this meta-analysis, 15 studies were included to analyze the impact of CTCs on the survival, and the results showed the positive detection of CTCs in patients was significantly associated with poor overall survival (OS) (HR 3.00, 95% CI 2.29–3.94, P\0.0001) and recurrence-free survival (RFS) (HR 2.67, 95% CI 2.09–3.42, P\0.0001). The correlation of CTCs with clinicopathological parameters was also analyzed in this meta-analysis. However, we have significant issues with the methodology and the conclusions derived from this study.
