Description
Cytosolic phospholipase A2a (cPLA2a) catalyzes the release of arachidonic acid (AA) and lysophosphoglyceride from membrane phospholipids. Although the roles of AA and eicosanoids in cellular viability, the processes of inflammation and cancer cell development have been extensively studied, the function of cPLA2a in the processes of inflammation and cancer cell development is not clear. This review summarizes published evidences for the biochemical properties and regulatory mechanisms of cPLA2a. The potential for use of cPLA2a as a novel diagnostic target and predictive biomarker for tumors is also discussed.
