Description
The aim of this study was to assess the effects of vitamin C on vitamin K-related clotting factors II, VII, IX and X. Sixty female Wistar rats with a mean weight of 180±20 g were selected, and after a 5-day adaptation period, control blood samples were taken under anaesthesia. The animals were randomly separated into two equal groups: one group received only warfarin for 30 days while the other group received both warfarin and vitamin C. Blood samples were taken at days 15 and 30 to measure vitamin K-related clotting factors, prothrombin time (PT) and activated partial thromboplastin time (APTT). The results showed that the combined administration of vitamin C and warfarin leads to increased coagulation factors II, VII, IX and X and decreased PT and APTT.
