Description
We report a unique case of a 60-year-old man suffering from Addison’s disease who underwent a hybrid total hip replacement subsequently developing heterotopic ossification. Radiotherapy failed to arrest the progression of disease and isotope bone scan at 15 months suggested ongoing disease process. Addison’s disease has been shown to be associated with calcification of auricular cartilage and abdominal viscera but never before reported in literature as a cause of heterotopic ossification in orthopaedic surgery. We suggest that heterotopic ossification in this patient was caused by Addison’s disease
