Description
Sirs, Atypical nonfamilial HUS can be caused by infections, medications, systemic diseases, malignancy, and pregnancy [1]. Infection with influenza A or Epstein Barr virus has been rarely associated with atypical HUS. The 2009 pandemic of influenza A due to a novel swine-origin influenza A:H1N1 strain in the spring of 2009 has been characterized by widespread illness in young children and an increase in the number of fatal cases in the pediatric age group [2]. We report the first case of atypical HUS associated with confirmed pandemic influenza A:H1N1 infection and describe the clinical course of this illness.
